the last few years has seen a series of well received releases from rhythmic theory, the anonymous techno producer lurking in the shadows of the bristol music scene. *endless forms* is their second release for idle hands and follows on from where the previous ep *legacy of the lost* left off. the title track delves deeper into the sonic realms of classic jungle and comes up for air sounding like dub techno. a weighty bass line propels things along, whilst a sci-fi voice intones the title. this one is a sound system rocker. *tales of dystopia* brings to mind early nineties uk techno with its haunting synths, swung beats and deadly bass line. rhythmic theory is killing it at the moment, expect more to come.

after the highly anticipated release of his third studio album decay, efdemin presents the first part of a remix series featuring his favourite producers. bristols underground hero asusu inflates the reduced album opener some kind of up and down yes with deepest bass and beautiful scapes to the max in a true photek-style. last years control by staffan linzatti was one of the favourite constants to be played in every efdemin or lawrence set. luckily his version of solaris is another epic hymn here with futuristic enhancements of the third kind.the most extraordinary piece on decay versions part 1 is the borderland states rework of parallaxis. efdemins studio-mate john gürtler recorded that beauty with adding acoustic instruments only and sounds like a meeting of moondog with wim mertens.

the album astral traveling by innerspace halflife is among us with 9 tunes straight from the universal psyche, yet articulated with the tools of human perception through waveforms. deeper and deeper the tunes take a listener on a journey of spacey pads, longing melodies, electronic bass notes, and jacking drum programming. in terms of human understanding, the universe is infinite which makes any scenario one can think of possible. with this in mind, astral traveling was composed and explores the deepness of creativity as innerspace halflife reaches down to pull out sounds using various techniques. the story begins with teardrop from nebula 1122+22. straight from a far away point in space which can serve as the beginning or end of a journey.

leao is the house alter ego of respected tech producer robotneedsoil. here he supplies two killer house tracks that are given the remix treatment by two of the industries current favourites, kindimmer & jacob b. the ep lifts off with the original mix of drop that and wastes no time getting down to business. tough beats and throbbing bass meets cool stabs and vocal stabs urging you to -take your body back-. the jacob b remix of the same track is ruthless. taking no prisoners with a sub heavy mix that never veers from dance floor destruction. the b-side kicks off with leao s second original offering. this is house with heavy footwear. something more stomps, elbows and swings it s way through an intricately placed web of percussion. kindimmer s alien remix subtly uses elements of the original while at the same time segueing into new territory. its deep and eerie, soulful and moody. all the things that have made the berlin based greek one of the most sought after remixers in europe

dnaut is a brand new label launching with an ep from the mysterious collective mdec - music dance every chance. the first track *the treasure* is a spangled fusion of synths that variously rasp to shine, while the percussions lend a rough feel. the rubbery drums and bass line of *riz jungle* harks back to old school chicago. *hero* is a predatory, creeping and crawling house grove with a whispered voice to add yet more intrigue. *desire* featuring hayley blackman is a little more playful- rooted drums underpin elastic, swaggering percussive lines and a little disco dazzle is hiding in the subtle synth patterns. *glisten feathers* feat billy love closes the ep heartfelt style with a breathy male vocal. shimmering synths, lingering pads and tinkling pianos add color to the killer vocal.

the second release from dnaut is *sketches of a circuit* by craig sherrad. in the past, sherrad has worked on labels such as transmat. this ep kicks off with *we got extasy* - a solid 4/4 with stormy clouds over alien life forms. *hot pockets* is a clubby groove with fractured melodies and glassy lines. *energize* featuring riot baby, is a hip hop inspired, dusty beat with vocals. rough and sexy. *mercury electric* has bouncy beats, with a grubby bass line and layered synths. *sketches of a circuit* is a soupy bit of ambiance with sporadic gently tumbling drums, blissful chords and the slightest ripples of percussion.

after a twisted, introduction full of warped vocals and shifting percussion, villain builds into a track designed to kill the rave. dropping into a wall of contorted, metallic bass and vicious drums, minor rain switches things up throughout, maintaining interest - as well as that infectious groove. on the flipside, main core shifts gears with a pulsing, submerged bass driving things forward. combining elements of tribal beats, programmed drums and a stuttering rhythm, main core is a great example of future funk musics ability to put out groundbreaking, forward-thinking music.

keeping in line with the trademark birdsmakingmachine sound, comes the fifth release on their self-entitled label, bmm 004. with a more straight-to-the-point approach than its predecessor, the ep starts off on the dance floor, with rumbling bass lines and heavy metallic snares juggling with effects-laden delicacies on the a1s >ahora vengo<. the arrival of >ash but not arthur< on the a2 calms things down bit and takes the listener for a gentle journey through ambient pads and cleverly swinging hi hats, while on the flip, things get a little more bouncy in >oscars critical jack<, which is mostly due to the fact its main ingredient – the solid playful bass line – blends effortlessly with the higher frequency spices, keys, strings and rhythmic parts. the end credits roll down with >bonfume<, another relatively smooth yet jacking swinger that could either be used to kick it up a notch in a warm-up set or be danced to while finding yourself at an afterhour.

very first release of state of grace, new berlin based label. infinite tenderness meets different moods and mental landscapes. on a1 take me down is a bare, dark and sexy 9 minutes sinking, slowly down to the loss of consciousness. on b1 right stuff enchants the dancefloor with a funky and mellow atmosphere. on b2 blue tool closes the ep, with essential jacking bass driving groove and deep melodies.

catalognumber 23 – what else is to say? while we are feeling the spirit of william s. burroughs blessing this very vinyl-enigma, &me went particularly mysterious ways to transcend the category - dance track - for this one. the meditation through bass had been the major discipline of some of his latest cuts, but what you will find on this a-side, one could certainly call the perfection of somnambulistic peaktime-fever. the way he is kneading the lower frequencies, how he is channeling the expansion and decay of bass must inevitably lead to some aroused moaning. good vocal-selection, for that matter! then there are those tension building synths and a staccato-frenzy in the break that might be the ultimate ecstasy-trigger of the season. * locust* on b comes in with some smoothly looped e-guitar-coolness, adding whispering hi-hats and a comparatively rich percussive architecture. but then again: rolling bass barrels like a signature and a defence breaking build up thats ensued by liberating pressure compensation in mighty breaks. two demonstrations of understated and sophisticated peaktime-emphasis, so to say. or differently put: a flawless double-a-side.

the constant state label launches in style with a record from ian blevins & phil moodys al gobi outfit, who had something of a breakthrough 2013 with releases for disco bloodbath, rothmans, culprit la and audio parallax. while the original mix of a cup of tea is dark and unsettled - beautifully balanced bass notes and piano cutting through heavy, storm-pregnant air, cottams accompanying remix is the distillation of a second wind. his tribal, twisted, acidic treatment of this 3am concrete bunker anthem never overwhelms the piano refrain, instead giving it a new life, like the ghost of a party suddenly bequeathed fresh purpose as tired legs find boundless energy.

lambs musical style is a distinctive mixture of jazz, dub, breaks and drum & bass, with a strong vocal element and, in their later works especially, some acoustic influences. consisting of producer andy barlow, and singer-songwriter lou rhodes, they achieved commercial success with two hit singles *górecki* and *gabriel*, the first one being included on their eponymous debut album (1996).

nolan returns to connaisseur this month with renowned actor idris elba on vocals for *children of house*, of norway on remix duty. *children of house* is nolans second release with the german imprint connaisseur following his *ghetto bicep* ep that saw big support from the likes of wolf + lamb, droog & maceo plex back in 2012. the brighton based producer re-joins an impressive roster of artists such as kollektiv turnstrasse, ripperton, afrilounge and chymera with this release. blurring the lines between disco and house nolans productions have previously found homes at notable labels such as off recordings, get physical, nervous records and audiojacks imprint, gruuv.

this release sees ante perry team up with a host of names in his very own studio in dortmund. first up belgian artist maxim lany is the first to accompany him in a deeply warm number named honigmitmais , a track possessing a sullen resonating sub-bass and romantic piano stabs with male vocal coos scattered throughout. xtc1 with german artist dirty doering then shifts the mood, dominated by a low-end unmistakably perry with the addition of pitched down vocals and eerie atmospherics make for a trippier track altogether.
